Not only have I kept on track with grabbing a photo every day, I’ve also dramatically cut down my Pepsi intake since the beginning of the year. I’ve allowed myself only ONE per day. It seems like the worst of the caffeine withdrawal is behind me – no more headaches and fantasies of rage-stabbing passersby. But I digress. Here’s the week 2 photo recap.

I’ll admit that it’s a good feeling to have stamped this house with my taste…but what will I obsess over now that I’ve completed the rooms? Oh, yeah. The front porch. Wait until you see what I plan to paint there.

A couple of months ago I managed to collect my thoughts long enough to plan a birthday party for all three kids. Since their birthdays are less than three weeks apart I decided to split the difference and have one big party – a week(ish) after the twins’ birthday, a week(ish) before the small boy’s birthday. I booked a party at J.J. Jump, which is an inflatable wonderland that eliminates the need for party games and house cleaning. Yay me! While in this momentary state of clarity, I also managed to design and print invitations! I’m calling this an “almost hybrid” project, because it involved my printer, real paper, and a paper cutter…just not glue and cute stuff. So here they are:

The party went exceptionally well. If I can get away with one party a year for the rest of their birthday partyin’ days, I will do it, because that was way too easy. And lord knows I’m not capable of doing anything that requires organization.

This was originally a Facebook status update turned Facebook note. Then I figured, why not just share it with everyone? Let me preface the story by stressing my extreme arachnophobia. My husband does the spider killing here. But on this particular evening, my husband was out of town.

My epic spider battle last night went something like this: I called Chad in Seattle to see if he’d come home to kill it. No, he wouldn’t. My conversation with him was cut short due to my involuntary yelps, screeches, and general cursing every time the spider moved. Convinced that if I left the living room to get some spray (or a flamethrower) capable of killing the thing, I would return to find it missing. Not an option. After 20 minutes of surveying the room for appropriate spider-killing gear I settled on a nearby flip-flop to launch at the wall.

More time passed as I tried to determine a safe spider-killing distance. Being too close to the wall put me at great risk of being eaten by the spider. Too far, and my attempt to destroy it would likely result in the spider escaping safely to an undisclosed location where it would formulate its new plan of attack. I had to choose wisely. Finally I did it. I stepped up to the wall, about four feet between me and the spider. Fighting goosebumps, I waited for it stop moving around. But it must have sensed the impending doom because it took off running. I had to act fast.

I threw the shoe, and I could not believe what happened next. The spider jumped off of the wall at my airborne shoe. Like some sort of slow-motion action scene from a movie. Seriously. The only thing missing was a fiery explosion. It latched itself to the flip-flop and I watched, frozen, as the shoe then bounced off the wall and landed back at my feet. And the spider? Unscathed, hunting for toes to devour. In a daze I finished the job. I grabbed the non-spider-contaminated flip-flop and mashed the fucker.

I had won the midnight spider battle…but did I really? I spent the next several hours squealing every time my hair brushed my neck, spasmodically flailing my limbs with each sensation I felt on my skin, and too queasy to sleep. So thank you, big.giant.icky.huge.disgusting.terrifying.spider for ruining my night. The end.

As you can probably guess – since it’s just about May – I’ve been dragging my feet a bit when it comes to putting together our family album for 2009. There are a few reasons for this. 1.) I didn’t scrap very much last year. Certainly not enough to fill a small album, and not enough to have documented all of the pictures that I loved last year. 2.) I’m torn on the look I want for it. I love the sort of hodge-podge look of different layouts made with different kits, where each layout is created as an individual work of art. But I also love the look of an album that is cohesive from start to finish. How do I choose? 3.) Just time. And motivation. (Or lack thereof.) And 4.) I don’t want to “cheat” this year. Previous albums have been a mix of my layouts and quick Shutterfly layouts. This was a great solution for me at the time I was putting the books together since it was such a time-saver, but I have my mind made up that I’m going to put effort into every page this year. This is probably a direct result of my control-freakishness.Ultimately I decided to try a new look, which happens to be a cohesive, clean, and relatively simple album. Though, next year I might look back and wonder why I didn’t use more “stuff”. LOL! My tastes change quickly. Here’s a handful of pages that I’ve done so far and I’m really pleased with the results!

If you’ve seen layouts from me before, you’ll recognize that journaling is noticeably absent from most pages I do. Yet, surprisingly, I journaled on nearly every page above. By focusing on the photos and keeping the extras to a minimum I found that the words just came to me a bit easier. I’m still very guarded in my approach – it’s hard for me to express my feelings on a page knowing they’ll be there for all of time – but I’m excited to have had a little breakthrough, if you will. As I make more progress with this album I will continue to share. Thanks for stopping by!

Since I’m still recovering from pneumonia, I asked him to get some frozen meals -you know, almost real food that requires no prep on my part. I’m partial to Marie Callendar meals.I set forth making said meals for lunch today: fettuccine for the kids, turkey/gravy/potatoes/veggies for me. To my surprise, Dalian actually thanked me. “Thanks for the food mommy!” Darn kid, too cute for his own good. So I said “You’re welcome!” Then I added that they should thank daddy since he was the one who bought the food. I was met with “But daddy’s not here!” from the boys. And what does Celia say? “We can say thank you right now because he’ll hear it in his heart.”Profound words from that goofy little thing.
